How to have recurring payments automatically drawn from Flourish Cash

Estimated reading time: 1 minute

Setting up your account to have payments automatically drawn from Flourish Cash can help simplify your financial life. It can remove the need to initiate manual transfers and keep extra cash in a separate low-yield account, ensuring that cash earns more until it is used for payments such as credit cards, mortgages, tuition, utilities, Venmo, and more.

By setting up bill pay alongside direct deposit, Flourish Cash can become a powerful way to manage everyday cash. Income flows in, bills are paid, and your cash earns a high yield in between.

There are two ways to set up bill pay with Flourish Cash. If your billing institution supports Plaid, that's the fastest option. If not, you can still use your Flourish Cash transfer account and routing numbers.

Please note: When setting up bill pay manually or through Plaid, you may see references to PNC Bank during the connection or verification process. This is expected. Flourish Cash uses PNC Bank to facilitate certain transfer-related services.

How to set up bill pay via Plaid

Our integration with Plaid makes it even easier to connect your Flourish Cash account as a funding source with a variety of institutions and services.

  1. Log in to your billing institution account and navigate to the bill pay set up.
  2. Launch the Plaid connection tool, then enter your phone number or email address
  3. In the "Select your institution" field, type in 'Flourish Cash' and click "Continue to login"
  4. Enter your Flourish account user name and password
  5. If required, complete the multi-factor authentication
  6. Review and confirm information, then click "Allow"
  7. Once setup is complete, future payments will be deducted from your Flourish Cash account according to the details of your billing institution and payment cycle

How to set up bill pay manually

  2. On your dashboard under your Flourish Cash account, locate the account information under your account information in the center left of the screen
  3. Click "Transfer account & routing numbers," which will open a pop-up window with the information needed to set up bill pay with the billing institution
  4. Submit your transfer account number and routing number to the billing institution and complete any required steps to finalize setup

Bill pay in action

Here are a few ways members of the Flourish team use bill pay and direct deposit in their own lives:±

“I use Flourish Cash to pay annual insurance premiums automatically. The due dates are easy to forget and having the payments pulled directly from my account is one less thing for me to do and one less thing for me to remember.”

“I pay my daughter’s tuition directly from my Flourish Cash account. I schedule recurring transfers into the account, and the school pulls the payment automatically. It is simple, predictable, and my money earns a high yield until they payment is due to the school.”

“My paycheck goes directly into Flourish Cash, and I use my credit card for expenses throughout the month. When the card payment is due, it is pulled directly from Flourish Cash. It helps me avoid moving money back and forth while keeping more of my cash earning until bills are due.”

Bill pay FAQ

What is bill pay via Flourish Cash?

Bill pay enables supported billing institutions or financial services to pull payments directly from your Flourish Cash account, similar to how payments are pulled from a checking account.

What kinds of bills can I connect?

Examples may include mortgage payments, utilities, credit card payments, insurance premiums, tuition, or other recurring expenses. Availability depends on the billing institution.

Important notes for manual bill pay set up:

For manual bill payment, all transfers are processed through PNC Bank. In order to establish a connection with a third-party account, the institution must allow for a 17-digit transfer account number.

When manually connecting to third-party accounts, clients should establish a connection using their Flourish Cash transfer account number and routing number. Connections using your Flourish log in credentials are only supported via Plaid, see set up instruction above. If your financial institution is using a different connectivity provider, connections via log in credentials are not currently supported.

When first establishing the connection, you may be required to follow a verification process first, such as verifying test microdeposits, which may delay the process.

How does the connection work?

When supported, you can connect your Flourish Cash account either automatically with Plaid through a secure account-linking experience or manually using your Flourish Cash transfer account and routing numbers. Once connected, the billing institution can pull payments from your account when due.

Does Flourish send the bill payment for me?

No. The payment is typically initiated by the billing institution or financial service you connect. Flourish Cash provides the account that funds can be pulled from.

Can every bill be paid via my Flourish Cash account?

Not necessarily. Support can vary by billing institution, payment platform, and account-linking method.

How can I help make sure a bill is paid on time?

Complete setup before the due date, confirm the connection with your billing institution, and make sure there are enough available funds in your Flourish Cash account before the payment is pulled.

Can I use bill pay and direct deposit together?

Yes! Many clients may choose to have income flow into Flourish Cash and have recurring bills pulled from the same account, helping reduce the need to move money back and forth and maximizing the earning time of the cash. Learn more about direct deposit

Can I change or stop a bill payment later?

Yes. Changes are typically made directly with the billing institution or financial service where the payment was set up.

How can my advisor help?

Your advisor can help you decide how much cash to keep available, which expenses may make sense to connect, and how Flourish Cash fits into your broader financial plan.
